Despite it being only half an hour away I have never been to the Lickey Incline so I popped down today and got these shots,nother spectacular just Voyagers and Class 170's but its a pretty good location

A gorgeous morning down at Foley Park tunnell only spoilt by the frozen points at Artley that lead to a rather eratic service but it did keep us on our toes

A long weekend as part of our 25th wedding anniversary celebrations and my wonderful wife allowed me to pop into York station on Saturday and Sunday to get some shots of Tornado plus other miscellany

Started shooting some stuff on Film again with a newly acquired Canon EOS10 and these are a few feom the SVR Autumn gala and a long weekend in York.The film is Kodak Ektar 100

Some shots from the SVR Autumn Gala today and a cracking few hours it was,the reason behind the shot of the guy in the wheelchair is a salutory reminder as we yomp across fields and over fences etc to get our prize shots that there are those less fortunate who still indulge their hobby so never moan about a disabled facility spoiling your period shot

Business down in Devon gave me a chance to pay a first visit to the South Devon railway and here are a few shots at Buckfastleigh and Staverton

A business trip up to Scarborough gave me a chance to pop into the NYMR,I know the approach to Levisham from the north is not exactly picturesque but I rather like is dilapidated feel.Anyhow some Southern steam here with an S15 and Schools class Repton

A trip to Aberystwyth on business gave me chance to spend a few minutes at the Vale Of Rheidol with a few shots around the yard and also capturing the last train of the day from Devils Bridge

Working down in Somerset meahnt another trip after work to the WSR this time at Bishops Lydeard station

A week working and staying over in Bridgwater gave me a chance to get up to the West Somerset Railway and take some shots at Stogomber and Crowcombe Heathfield stations.Back there again in 2 weeks

I am no great expert on modern traction so excuse me for not naming the various engines and power units taken at Wolverhampton station

As it was a beautiful morning I decided to pop down to Bridgnorth to get some shots based around the preperations for a days srteaming

A few at the West Somerset some Lynton & Barnstaple and the Lynmouth Cliff railway

Just a Sunday afternoon stroll down to my favourite station on the SVR but sods law said it was mostly tender first

Went up to the Llangollen Railway on the first Sunday of the Steel Steam & Stars gala and what a wonderful day it was,fabulous weather and my first sight of Dukedog,Royal Scot,Mayflower and Morayshire.In addition the weather was great and the company superb,special thanks to the local guy first thing at Chain Bridge the Black Country lads and the GWR member at Fisherman's Crossing

Overcast at times and squalls of rain and hail but overall a very pleasant day at this extremely friendly railway

As a bit of a change a big engine rather than the usual branch line gala and a treat for me as I saw in the flesh for the first time Sir Nigel Gresley,Oliver Cromwell,Duke O Gloucester and Nunney Castle

A couple of glorious days getting assorted Santa Special trains along Northwood Lane

Norwich on a Monday entailed Sunday travel and a decision of which line to visit,the Nene valley had a Thomas day the North Norfolk a family day so I decided on the peace and quiet of the DMU Gala at the Colne valley in Essex and a very pleasant little line it is

A glorious day in the Dee Valley and some engines I had never seen before (Metropolitan and N7) made it a wonderful day out

Spent the morning at Highley which to my mind is now the best station location on the whole line with the views that have been opened up by the building of the engine house.My only disappointment was that I did not see the Dukedog although that was partly made up for by Mrs Philips superb bacon baps

Just a couple of hours on the Saturday at the SVR gala as the gaffer had other plans for my day,the mist at Erdington was initially a pain but I think the shots have come out rather well.That gorgeous light at Hamton Loade though as Bradley Manor pulled away was wonderful

First ever visit to the Foxfield Industrial Railway in Staffordshire and a very pleasant experience,the staff were extremely friendly and the fact that you could within reason walk around most of the site was a very pleasant change.

First ever visit to the Churnet Valley and the great British summer again delivered with a dull and drizzly day.
Sadly not the friendliest staff I have ever encountered but it was at least good to get a sight of my first ever S160

A visit to Llanberis enabled me to get some shots of these 2 lines set in this the lakeside village

A weeks holiday in North Wales coincided with the first week of West Coast Trains running a weekday service along the Cambrian Coast line.These are shots of the BR Standard 4MT hauled trains at assorted locations

Rather than the Severn Vally Railway this visit was for the steam rally at Severnside Park in conjunction with the Trevithick 200 celebrating the 200th anniversary of the running of what was the first passenger steam train in history

A business trip gave me an hour to kill at Edinburgh Airport and these are the results.Because they were taken through glass the quality may be slightly degraded and I have no idea what types the various aircraft are other than the Flybe Dash 8 that I flew home on.

Due to the visit of Prince Charles and the Duchess Of Cornwall earlier in the week both King Edward1 and Princess Elizabeth were on the Severn Valley so an impromptu Royal day was set up with both the 4-6-0 and 4-6-2 running.
In addition the 2MT was running a footplate experience day at Bewdley and the Western Diesel pulled the 10.00am from Kidderminster

I decided it was time I started trying my hand at modern rail shots so today I went down to my local station at Stourbridge Junction and these are the results.Unless otherwise stated they are all London and Midland Railway units

Having missed out on last week because of a family crisis I got to the GWR yesterday and had a pleasant few hours apart from a telling off because of the colour of my lineside jacket from the local jobsworth

Taking daughter to Bristol Airport and working in Poole on the Monday meant that I got chance to spend a little time at the Swanage railway,after Corfe Castle first time I went to Harmans Cross which was a hive of activity for an out of season Sunday.All that was wrong was that the sunny weather I had seen for 180 miles disappeared within 5 miles of the station.

Got down to the Gala on the Saturday and got some shots at assorted locations along the line

Due to varying circumstances the trip to the Llangiollen had to be cancelled so on a rather grey Sunday afternoon it was to Highley for my first look at the engine shed.
For £3 the shed is good value with all the exhibits in immaculate condition,the big plus though is the number of new angles you have to photograph from particularly allowing good shots of tender first engines as I hope the following show

A holiday in Brixham gave me the opportunity to photograph the Paignton and Dartmouth railway in South Devon.Although taken over 3 days only the ex GWR 2-8-0 Tank engine Goliath was running so no variety there but plenty on the wonderful locations on this mainly coastal line

After the flood damage last summer the Severn Valley Railway re-opened today along its full length from Kidderminster to Bridgnorth.

My first ever visit to the Great Central in Leicestershire and a very pleasant day.The Double track allows a lot more running than the Single track lines I am used to and therefore not so much waiting between shots

After the floods of June 2007 the Severn Valley railway has been cut in half and only able to run from Kidderminster to Bewdley.
Today the re-opening began by running from Bridgnorth to Hampton Lode.Roll on Easter when the whole line will re-open again

A comment was made to me that my rail photos had rather gone into hibernation during the winter and for various reasons that was the case,then I realised I had not processed let alone posted these shots.
I was passing Bewdley station the other week but bad timing meant no trains running so these are my efforts at a rather quiet station

I was on business in Taunton so at the end of each day weather permitting I popped down to Bishops Lydeard Station to see the last steam train of the day in.

On my way to North Wales I stopped off just for a few shots at the Llangollen Railway,as the River Dee was in full flow I took a few shots of it as well

Severn Valley Railway annual Branch Line gala when the smaller engines take centre stage as the SVR recreates the feel of the Country Branch Line it once was

The SVR runs for about 16 miles between Kidderminster in Worcestershire and Bridgnorth in Shropshire.

Every October for the last 7 years the Welsh Highland Railway (Porthmadog) have held a gala called Dirty Chappies (No idea why) These are just a few shots taken at this years event before the rains came down.
The Welsh Highland were founded to restore the railway of that name between Porthmadog and Caernarfon but are now very much junior partners to the Ffestiniog Railway who took over (Some might say highjacked ) the project a few years ago.
However the WHR will keep the heritage of the old WHR alive whatever happens

The Autumn gala of the Severn Valley Railway had a GWR Branch Line theme with a number of visiting tank engines

The reason for the title is that rather than my usual autofocus lenses I used old M42 lenses with adaptor so I had to focus and expose manually.Strangeley enough the results are some of the best I feel I have taken around Harbour Station for a long time

For the first time in many years Steam charters ran on the Cambrian line in North Wales and most famously across the Barmouth Bridge over the Mawddach Estuary.These are just a few of the shots I took of the Standard 4MT wirg the Cambrian Coast Express
